Johnson's manuscript memoir, "My War Experiences," written ca. 1880, and a typewritten transcript of the account, prepared in 1925, by Johnson's grandson Major Thomas Johnson Strickler. The account details Johnson's service with the 24th and 65th regiments in primarily Missouri and Tennessee, and serving in Graham's Brigade and with Sherman before Atlanta.
